Mid-Day Munchies: Savory Snack Ideas to Get You Through the Workday

You’re sitting at your desk going through your emails or updating spreadsheets when you feel the first pang of hunger. You glance at the clock, but your lunch break is still hours away.

What do you do when the mid-day munchies strike?

Take a look at these savory snack ideas we guarantee will fill you up and help you get through the workday!

Garlic and Onion Cashews

A little bag full of nuts can help curb your hunger until lunchtime. Cashews, in particular, are a source of fiber, low in sugar, and contain almost as much protein as an equal amount of cooked meat.

Spice up regular old cashews with a boost of flavor in just a few simple steps.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups salted cashews
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 4 teaspoons dried parsley flakes
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • ¾ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 4 teaspoons onion salt

Directions

Mix garlic powder, sugar, and onion salt together. Using a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the cashews, lemon juice, and seasoning.

Stir occasionally until the cashews are fully toasted, about 4-7 minutes.

Add in the parsley. Drain the cashews and let them cool. Store for a future work snack.

Fresh Deli Meat Snacks

Are you looking for some easy savory snack ideas? Many people grab jerky or meat sticks when they need an extra boost of protein. However, these aren’t the healthiest options, and they certainly aren’t your only options.

One of our favorite quick, savory snack ideas is to get fresh deli meat from a quality source. You can find many options for meats on the Gamze Smokehouse homepage.

Add a few pieces of cured meat, such as salami, to a little snack box with veggies and other healthy options. You’ll get a filling snack that meets many of your nutritional needs.

Homemade Savory Granola

Pre-packaged granola bars may not do much for your growling stomach, but you can make your own savory granola. It’s cheaper, more filling, and healthier than store-bought options. Plus, you can keep it in your desk drawer to serve as a quick snack.

Ingredients

  • 1½ cups rolled oats
  • 1 cup almonds
  • ½ cup pumpkin seeds
  • ½ cup sunflower seeds
  • ¼ cup flax seeds
  • ¼ cup sesame seeds
  • 1 ½ teaspoon fennel seeds
  • 1½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon chili powder
  • ⅓ cup olive oil
  • 1 egg white, beaten
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup

Directions

Preheat the oven to 350°F. Combine and stir all the ingredients. Spread the mixture out on top of a lined, rimmed baking sheet.

Pour the mixture onto the pan and spread it out. Bake for around 20 minutes, stirring at the halfway point. Remove the baking sheet and allow the granola to cool.

Store for 1-2 weeks in an airtight container at room temperature.
